Why is this story here? How Philahoops’ network of sites will work
So you might be saying to yourself, why were there three stories on the homepage?
Ok, none of you are saying that, but let me just walk through what we are doing. The Philahoops network of sites will have three feature stories at all times. They are set to appear up there and are categorized as such. Underneath them will be the remainder of the sites. You can visit all sites by searching for them using the search bar (under the big pictures), clicking on a tag that you see or scrolling through to the next pages.
On top will always be breaking news, features or game stories. They will be our top stories and will probably be our most popular. The stories underneath will either be older stories in that form or a mix of quotes, blurbs or smaller stories that are usually just news not “important” enough to get into our top stories group.
So I invite you to scroll all the way through and check it all out. Get a feel for the pages and how things will work.
It is going to be a great year.
Current quirks on the Philahoops network of sites
So you might be moving around the site and say, “Hey, that looks funny.”
Fear not.
While I worked my darnedest to get all of the kinks worked out before launch, there are some things that still aren’t fully there. I’ll be working tirelessly to make the site as perfect as possible and will be adding new features in the coming months. These will include, but are not limited to:
- Creating a separate theme for mobile. Right now, mobile is a mess and should be, at the very least, cleaned up by next week.
- Further specialize social media so that posts alert you in the correct place.
- Create an alert system that can send an email when we post a story. It may or may not also include mobile push notifications through Growl.
- Add the possibility to post our youtube links on the front page
- Tighten up the look and functionality of Philahoops.com and all the sister sites.
Currently, these are the issues that I am working on:
- You will see duplicate posts on the front page right now. This is due to a filter issue in our current framework software. There is a fix, but it involves intensive testing that I am already pursuing.
- Slightly slow load time for images. This is due to the lack established structure on our CDN and will be developed over time.
- World Peace. We’ll have to take our time on that one.
Do you notice something else that you feel needs to be updated or changed? Feel free to leave a comment below or shoot me an email at [email protected]. At the very least, I’ll write you back.
Philahoops continues to be your best stop for college basketball news
With all these changes, we aim to be your breaking news outlet as well. You might see a post with a link like this.

“You will begin seeing quotes like these on the Philahoops sites. They are a quick way for us to get words said to you.” ~Joe Fedorowicz
